Reports suggest that Zimbabwe will play host to a tri-nation ODI series shortly after the conclusion of the Test series against Sri Lanka, who recently wiped out the World Number one ranked Australian side in a 3-0 home whitewash. Lankans will be touring Zimbabwe for a tour in the next month. The tour will see the Lankans play a bevy of two Test matches.

The first Test between these two sides sees them taking the field on the 29th of October at the Harare Sports Club. However, both these teams will have only three days before playing their second Test match at the same venue. The second test is scheduled for November 6-10.

Succeeding the Test series, both sides will be joined by the West Indies to complete the teams’ requirement for the Tri-Series. Initially, Sri Lanka’s tour of Zimbabwe consisted of the 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, and a T20 international before the Zimbabwean Cricket Board took the executive decision to make it a Tri-Nation series.

The series will see the first two ODIs played at the Harare Sports Club before the following ODIs are moved to Bulawayo. The West Indies team will join up with the hosts and Sri Lanka right after their series against Pakistan currently taking place in the United Arab Emirates where they will play 3 One-Day Internationals after the three T20 Internationals.

The Test series, however, will give the Zimbabwean players an opportunity to make up the ground they lost during the New Zealand series. They were thrashed out of sight by the Kiwis who were en route to South Africa. However, with Test cricket making a comeback to Zimbabwe, one can only assume that cricket is once again on the rise in these countries.

However, at the moment, the position for the head coach of Zimbabwe is still vacant with Makhaya Ntini filling the role on an interim basis. After the sacking of Dav Whatmore, Lance Klusener was appointed on a short-term basis before he sped away to join up with the Tamil Nadu Premier League. Heath Streak, the former Zimbabwe skipper and former bowling coach of Bangladesh is the favorite to fill in the role.
