India’s U-19 World Cup campaign began on a positive note as they beat the Australian team by 100 runs in their first match at Mount Maunganui. The match was an exhibition of top-quality cricket, especially by the Indian team, and it brought many talents and future prospects into the fore. Captain and a prodigy of sorts, Prithvi Shaw was awarded Man of the Match as he showed off his consistency by scoring 94 runs. The act was well supported by Manjot Kalra who contributed with an 86-run-knock. Vice-captain Shubhman Gill’s 54-ball-63 made sure that the top order caused damage to the Australian’s cause.
However, what stole the light on the day was the revelation of speedsters Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi. These two Indian pacers were consistently clocking in the 140s and evidently outshone the Australians and took them by surprise. Both of them scalped 3 wickets apiece but Nagarkoti especially impressed everyone on Twitter because of how he was hitting the deck hard yet keeping the economy rate at 4.14, the lowest among all the seven bowlers India used.
While Mavi ended with figures 3/45, Nagarkoti finished with 3/29 in 7 overs. Nagarkoti touched 147kph which was the quickest by any player in the match but perhaps may also become the quickest in the tournament. Some people were reminded of Shaun Tait while some were in awe of how an 18-year-old was able to outsmart the Aussies, who have the reputation of acing the pace department. Eventually, with the help of these two and the supporting acts of the other bowlers, Australia were bowled out for 228.
Nagarkoti is also remembered for his performance for Rajasthan against Gujarat where he took the first List-A hat-trick. In the same match, he showed his all-round abilities as he scored an unbeaten 56 when his team was reeling at 54/6. After that, he picked the hat-trick when the opposition needed 32 from 13 overs.
Here is what the buzz around K Nagarkoti on Twitter was:
This was serious pace from our boys. Solid beginning beating the Aussies by 100 runs. May the hunger continue and we carry the momentum. #U19CWC pic.twitter.com/zL75RDxjN3

Two Indian U19 boys are bowling 140kph + for fun.. Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti who just bowled at 146.. Remember a time where as fans we got excited to see Right Arm Fast Medium instead of Right Arm Medium Fast for an Indian pacer. And that was the senior players #U19CWC

Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi bowling consistently 140+ kmph is a refreshing sight. Nagarkoti bowls well in the death as well. First person to take List A hat-trick for Rajasthan.
These two will be hot picks during IPL auction, I guess#U19CWC @StarSportsIndia— Sarang Bhalerao (@bhaleraosarang) January 14, 2018
Kamlesh Nagarkoti reminds me of Shaun Tait with a better line and length. The only difference is that Tait just had pace but Nagarkoti has most of the qualities of a legendary fast bowler! #INDvAUS #U19CWC
