After their victory in the closely-fought affair in the opening Test of the four-match series against Australia at Adelaide Oval, India went into the ongoing second Test in Perth with a positive frame of mind. However, prior to the match, two of their star players in off-spinner Ravi Ashwin and Rohit Sharma were ruled out owing to an abdominal strain and back injury respectively.
Moreover, they had to deal with a lush-green turf, which seemed equivalent to a lawn-tennis court where the experienced Roger Federer won’t mind having a crack at a Wimbledon title. Therefore, they were in with a selection headache. Rohit’s replacement was pretty evident and Andhra batsman Hanuma Vihari’s inclusion didn’t spring a surprise by any stretch of the imagination.
All-pace attack for India
However, Ashwin’s replacement was to be seen. Umesh Yadav eventually was roped in. Bearing in mind the nature of the strip dished out, India, captained by Virat Kohli, decided to go in with an all-pace attack. In the meantime, the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja didn’t find a place in the eleven. Twitter is definitely not happy with Jadeja out of the side.
The Saurashtra cricketer has been a part of the national team in all three formats. However, somehow, he hasn’t been able to feature consistently in the Indian team. The 30-year-old made his limited-overs comeback in the Asia Cup, which India won, beating Bangladesh in the final. He was stupendous with the leather and also didn’t flatter to deceive with the bat in hand.
Thereafter, he notched his maiden Test century against Windies in his home-ground at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. He also did reasonably well in the ODI series against the same opponents. The all-rounder was also at his best in the Ranji Trophy fixture against Railways. The supporters lashed out after Jadeja was ignored for the Perth Test.
Here is how Twitter reacted
Last two years, Jadeja has averaged49.83 (598 runs) with the bat and 21.78 (84 wickets) with the ball. And with Ashwin missing, he still doesn't get a game. Will this decision come back to haunt Kohli? 39 overs into the innings, Vihari got one over.

I suspect that if India had Hardik Pandya available, they would have played Jadeja

India going in without a specialist spinner in Perth might come back to bite them. #Jadeja should have played.#AUSvsIND #perthtest #BCCI #AusvIndia

Who’ll take the first wicket, Vihari or Vijay or Jadeja’s direct hit from the dugout #AusvInd

Save this tweet for future reference.
– If umesh bowls crap, we'll pin point everything on his selection over Bhuvi/Jadeja.
– If umesh bowls well, then all is well & ignorance is bliss.
Come on, twitter. Do ya thing. "Lessszzzzooo" #INDvAUS

The Perth Test is gone case for India.
Vijay/Vihari part time can’t match Ashwin/Jadeja.

Would have been handy to have Jadeja bowl his accurate darts on these long, hot Perth days eh

Going in with 4 seamers is one thing, without Ashwin or Jadeja it makes the batting a little lighter that none of the #TeamIndia seamers can make a realistic Batting contribution #AUSvIND #PerthTest

In the Sheffield Shield match at Perth Stadium the pitch was similarly green but reportedly the ball left indentations on the surface which baked and hardened through the match – something Jadeja's straight stump lines could exploit effectively later in the Test. #AUSvIND
