The third day of the 2nd Test match between India and South Africa for the Gandhi-Mandela Freedom Trophy is in full swing. The South Africans endured another tough opening hour in the morning when they lost both overnight batsmen- Theunis de Bruyn and nightwatchman Anrich Nortje- cheaply to Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami.

Reeling at 5-53, the Proteas needed their experienced duo of Quinton de Kock and skipper Faf du Plessis to step-up to the occasion. The duo looked positive from the outset. Especially against Jadeja, both De Kock and Faf du Plessis were very positive, putting the left-arm spinner off his lengths for a while.

But just as it looked De Kock and Du Plessis were settling into a good rhythm, Ravichandran Ashwin weaved his magic once again. Bowling on a shorter-length, Ashwin got the ball to straighten just enough to hit the top of off-stump, leaving Quinton de Kock, who was trying to work it on the leg-side, bamboozled and shellshocked.

Another pitch intruder brings the game to a halt; tries to touch Rohit Sharma’s feet

Senuran Muthuswamy, who had scored a gritty 49 in the second innings of the first Test match; one that helped provide some sort of respectability to South Africa’s eventual total. Coming in at 6-128, Muthuswamy needed to do an encore of his previous innings but the left-arm spinner-cum all-rounder’s stay at the crease was cut-short by Ravindra Jadeja, who trapped him in front of the wicket and Umpire, after deliberating for eternity, eventually gave the decision in favor of the bowler.

It was in the aftermath of Muthuswamy’s dismissal that the most entertaining thing of the entire day. Yep! The pitch invasion! And, it’s not the first time it has happened. Remember the first Test at Vizag? When a Virat Kohli fan nonchalantly rushed to the ground to take a selfie with the Indian captain? Or when twice, fans broke on to the field at Mohali during the 2nd T20I?

On the third in Pune, it was the turn of Rohit Sharma. Soon after Jadeja trapped Muthuswamy in the 45th over of the South African innings, a fan brought the proceedings to a halt when he rushed towards Rohit Sharma, who was fielding in the slips to kiss his feet and even took the cricketer down with him before the security took him away.

Naturally, Twitter had a field day, and this is how they reacted to the pitch invasion:
