The T10 League kick-started with a bang as Shahid Afridi’s hattrick propelled his side Pakhtoons to a comprehensive win by 25 runs. Batting first, Afridi’s side dismantled the Maratha Arabians’ bowlers with a dominant display. Pakistan’s limited overs’ opener Fakhar Zaman and English batter Liam Dawson took the onus upon themselves to help their side get a big score.

Both these batters stitched a crucial stand, which helped them register a mammoth 121-run total on the board in their 10 overs. Fakhar Zaman scored 45 runs in 22 balls whereas Dawson finished with a 23-ball 44. Afridi and Mujeeb Zadran clobbered a six each and played a part in accelerating the scoreboard.

In reply to this huge total, Shahid Afridi’s first over turned the game on its head. The Arabians did get a good start, with Alex Hales striking a few boundaries and they amassed 36 runs in their first 3 overs. Hales’ exploits kept them in check with the required run rate, but what followed next was something unbelievable and reminisced of the good old days in cricket.

The Spin King sets the tournament on fire

“Boom Boom” Afridi picked up the ball in the fifth over of the innings. The Arabians had already lost two wickets in the innings and it was not going to be an easy task for them to get to their target. Afridi made it all the more difficult, but picking up three wickets in successive deliveries and becoming the first cricketer to pick up a hat-trick in T10 cricket.

First of his victims was South African Rilee Rossouw, who pulled the ball towards long-on, but ended up giving a catch to the fielder. Next up, Dwayne Bravo fell prey to a beautifully tossed-up delivery as he was rapped on pads exactly in front of the stumps. One of Afridi’s archrivals Virender Sehwag came in to bat and the latter being the victim that confirmed his hattrick just made every Pakistani cricket fan’s day.

It was a similar delivery as that of Bravo’s dismissal, which induced the umpire to raise his finger. The game turned on its head in a span of three balls and Afridi rightfully was named the man of the match. The Arabians only managed 96 in their 10 overs and gifted a 25-run victory for the Pakhtoons.
