The first Test between England and India is set to take place at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The Men in Blue won the T20I series courtesy of some stupendous performances, especially by the batsmen. However, they couldn’t replicate their form in the 50-overs format and flunked in the last couple of matches to lose the series 1-2 after taking a lead with a win in the first match.

India are currently ranked number one in the ICC rankings while England are ranked fifth, but the home team is expected to have the edge over its opponents. Meanwhile, England won the toss and had no hesitation to bat first. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli’s men also announced their playing eleven and some of the team selections furrowed a few eyebrows.

Rahul, Dhawan, and Vijay- the top three

Cheteshwar Pujara, the right-handed batsman didn’t find a place in the eleven. KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, and Murali Vijay are the top three batsmen. Pujara didn’t have an overly impressive time in the country over the last few months. He played for Yorkshire in the County Championship and managed to score only 172 runs in 12 innings. Moreover, he wasn’t able to score a single half-century in the event.

India played a practice match against Essex at County Ground in Chelmsford and Cheteshwar Pujara couldn’t deliver, much to his agony. However, bearing in mind his prowess with the willow, he was expected to find a place in the eleven, but that wasn’t the case. Kuldeep Yadav, who bowled phenomenally in the limited-overs series, also didn’t find a place in the eleven.

The visiting team opted for three specialist pacers in Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma. Ravichandran Ashwin is the lone spinner in the team. In the meantime, Twitter is shocked by Pujara’s eviction from the lineup and they expressed their disappointment over the matter.
