Kings XI Punjab opener Hashim Amla entered the record books yet again. He became the first player to smash two centuries in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. Who would believe when one would claim that this man was not even on the IPL roster an edition ago. Amla made his first appearance in the IPL in the previous edition of the IPL for the Kings XI Punjab.

He had made a mark straightaway when he plundered runs at will in the match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad last year. He had missed out on his maiden T20 ton when he was dismissed for 96 on the occasion. However, this year, the South African stalwart seems to be covering up for missing out on that opportunity. This year, Hashim Amla scored his first ton in T20 format against the Mumbai Indians. He had smashed an unbeaten 104 on the day at Indore but ended up being on the losing side.

Despite his superlative knock, many people still believed that he is not a man for the shorter formats. His credibility with the bat was doubted in the T20 format of the game. With a tag of being a Test match player, Hashim Amla certainly had a lot to prove to many.

And he did it in some style when Kings XI Punjab took on the Gujarat Lions at Mohali. Amla plundered a magnificent 104 off just 60 deliveries with 8 fours and 5 sixes to his name. This was his second ton in the IPL, second ton of his T20 career and the second ton of the season.

In the match, the Kings were asked to bat first by the Gujarat Lions. Amla lost the support of Martin Guptill in the very first over of the match. He then put on a marathon 125 runs stand for the 2nd wicket with Shaun Marsh. After Marsh was dismissed on 58, he added another 60 runs with Glenn Maxwell. He was dismissed in final over of the game but the damage was already done. His efforts saw KXIP post 189/3 in their 20 overs.

Here is how the Twitter world went gaga over his superlative knock against the Gujarat Lions:
