The Rajasthan Royals (RR) didn’t have an overwhelming outing in the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL). They qualified for the playoffs but crashed out of the tournament following their defeat in the Eliminator versus the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Their tournament commenced with some resounding wins.

However, they strained to carry the momentum in the middle-phase of the round robin stage owing to which the franchise found themselves in dire straits. They included Jofra Archer in the playing eleven and promoted Jos Buttler to open the batting to turn their fortunes around in the event. The changes turned out to be a masterstroke and they managed to arrest Rajasthan’s slump.

Buttler notched five half-centuries on the trot and guided his team to safety on several occasions. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored 548 runs in 13 matches and was their leading run-scorer. On the other hand, Archer turned out to be a vital cog in their lineup. His searing Yorkers and vicious bouncers were hard to negotiate for the batsmen. The Barbados-born bowler eventually picked 15 wickets in 10 contests.

Rajasthan commit a blunder

RR was dealt with a body blow when Buttler, along with Ben Stokes, left the franchise for national duties. Without the stalwarts, the Royals took the field in a must-win match versus the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Nevertheless, Rahul Tripathi and Shreyas Gopal’s brilliance won them the match. They had the Eliminator against KKR in their hands.

To their dismay, their batting faltered and Ajinkya Rahane’s men’s journey ended with the loss itself. Their agony hasn’t ended even after their exit. Recently, they posted a map of India and expressed their gratitude for an energetic event. Meanwhile, they and got severely trolled by people. In the map, there was a problem with the representation of Jammu and Kashmir which didn’t go down well with people.
