The former Pakistan cricketer Imran Khan becoming the Prime Minister of his country was quite an event in India. Imran’s political party had invited some of the former Indian cricketers to attend the swearing ceremony. While a few decided to reject the invitation, the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev cited personal reasons to not able to visit Pakistan. But Navjyot Singh Sidhu was the only one to accept the invitation and even go to Pakistan for the swearing ceremony of Imran Khan.

Sidhu’s actions offended many back in India as they criticised the former cricketer a lot for his move. This was a brave move from the cricketer turned politician but he stressed the need of maintaining peace between the two countries. Moreover, the controversy arose when he hugged the Pakistan Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa during the event while Sidhu gave repeated explanations on the matter.

Pulwama Attacks leaves nation fuming

While Navjyot Singh Sidhu’s intentions were to maintain peace between the two countries, the terror attack on the Indian soldiers in Pulwama on Thursday has changed the dynamics a lot. A close to 40 CRPF soldiers lost their lives as the nation is mourning their death. Moreover, a lot of cricketers have expressed their grief over the incident with Gautam Gambhir especially, fuming over the incident.

Amidst all the happenings, the social media is also flooded with the messages attacking Sidhu and the people are demanding to ban him. To make things worse, Sidhu has further said that it is wrong to blame Pakistan after the attack which has increased the anger of the people.

“For a handful of people, can you blame the entire nation and can you blame an individual? It (the attack) is a cowardly act and I condemn it firmly. Violence is always condemnable and those who did it must be punished,” Sidhu was quoted as saying by Economic Times.
