Former England international Kevin Pietersen’s Twitter account was locked on Saturday for violating the micro-blogging website’s norms. Pietersen’s locked account was the result of his tweet ‘violating rules against abuse and harassment’.

The tweet cited by Twitter was the one where Pietersen had jokingly threatened to slap television presenter Piers Morgan. There have been many instances when a cricketer’s tweet has been perceived in the wrong way, making things hard for him. Even a small mistake in a tweet has the power of causing a grave situation for a well-known personality.

“I slap you when I see you! That won’t be nonsense,” was the tweet in question by Pietersen. In response to his locked account, Pietersen also took to his Instagram stories to speak up about the situation where he clarified that his statement was just a joke.

Kevin Pietersen later shared that his account has been restored

Morgan himself said it was ‘amusing’ that Pietersen’s account had been locked but said it was an ‘obvious joke’ and his account should be reinstated.

“BREAKING: Kevin Pietersen suspended from Twitter for threatening to slap me…Amusing though this is, it was an obvious joke and a) I don’t feel remotely harassed b) he can’t slap his way out of a paper bag. So, please reinstate him UK Twitter,” Morgan said in a tweet.

Along with the tweet, Morgan also shared a snapshot in which it was informed to Pietersen from Twitter that his account has been locked by Twitter for violating its rules. The snapshot also read that Twitter warned Pietersen that repeated violation of norms might lead to his account getting suspended permanently.

Pietersen later also shared an image of a mail he got from the Twitter support team, confirming the restoration of his account.

The dispute between the two began when Morgan attacked the UK Government for the timing of their decision to loosen the coronavirus lockdown in England. While the presenter had written that reopening Britain’s pubs on a Saturday in July was dumb, “Letting them open from 6 am is stupefyingly stupid.” Pietersen had replied saying, “Average age to die is around 80! Small % death rate. Stop your nonsense, fat boy!”
