Murali Vijay hasn’t had the best of times of late in international cricket. He is currently in England where India are playing a five-match Test series against Joe Root and Co. He commenced the tour with a knock of 53 against Essex at County Ground in Chelmsford. However, his English campaign has gone downhill ever since. In the first Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, he flattered to deceive.

The second turned match turned out to be equivalent to a nightmare for the Tamil Nadu-born batsman as he managed to bag a pair. The conditions were gloomy courtesy of the persistent rain and James Anderson took full of the atmosphere to nip the experienced campaigner out. In both instances, the batter didn’t have much clue about the viciousness of the deliveries from Anderson.

Twitter calls for Vijay’s retirement

Subsequently, the 34-year-old was dropped for the third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Shikhar Dhawan, who didn’t play the second Test at the Home of Cricket, replaced him and played reasonably well. To add to Vijay’s agony, he was also dropped from the squad for the fourth and final Test at The Rose Bowl and Kennington Oval respectively.

India won the third match by a mammoth margin of 203 runs owing to individual brilliance from the likes of Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah. Most importantly, the visiting team bounced back after losing the first two Tests. After the victory, Dhawan posted a picture where he can be seen standing with a bottle of beer along with Vijay, his fellow opener.

He captioned the same and wrote, “Celebrating a good victory with a good mate! #TeamIndia #ENGvIND”.

In the meantime, the users on the social media platforms poked fun at Murali Vijay and mentioned the post as a farewell to the seasoned batsman.
