Match 3 of the 5th edition of the Caribbean Premier League saw the Barbados Tridents and Jamaica Tallawahs battle out between themselves at Florida. Barbados Tridents, the Keiron Pollard led side emerged victorious in a close encounter at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium.
Barbados boasted of a star studded side with the likes of Keiron Pollard, Kane Willamson, Wayne Parnell, Wahab Riaz, Dwayne Smith, Ravi Rampaul and Shoaib Malik in their ranks. Batting first, the team could not put up a gigantic total but just managed to cross the 140 run mark in their 20 overs. While Shoaib Malik top scored with 33 a few others chipped in with scores between the 20-30 run mark. Pakistani all-rounder Imad Wasim was terrific with the ball for the team from Jamaica as he picked up 2 wickets for 16 runs in a highly economical performance.
The run chase:
Coming on to chase the target, the Jamaica Tallawah’s led by Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara had a dismal start. Sangakkara himself went back to the pavilion for a golden duck off a Ravi Rampaul delivery. However, Lendl Simmons tried to stabilize the inning with Andre McCarthy and also brought up his fifty. But the team’s batting order saw a few wickets fall in quick intervals after Simmons and McCarthy were dismissed. Imad Wasim and Krishmar Santokie remained not out till the end but their efforts fell 12 runs short of the target. Akeal Hosein was the pick of the Barbados bowlers as he picked up 2 wickets for 24 runs in his 4 designated overs.
The Barbados Tridents now find themselves in the second place in the points table after the Trinabgo Knight Riders. Both the teams are on 2 points having played a game each, but Barbados stand behind on net run rate. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are also on 2 points having won their game against the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
