The last four days of cricketing action between hosts England and Pakistan proved why Test cricket is always the best. Pakistan put up a stellar all-round show to defeat the hosts by 75 runs to win the first test of the four-match series.
It was a match that was abundant with fun and four-match Right from the day one, things unfolded in such a manner that it kept everyone excited about the outcome. Pakistan were better than the opposition right from the beginning. They posted 339 in the first inning with the help Misbah ul Haq’s wonderful century. The much awaited moment of the game finally arrived after Mohammad Amir was given the ball to start things off in the 2nd innings.
However, there were no early celebrations from him. Instead, it was the less spoken about Rahat Ali who brought early cheers for his team. England, despite Alastair Cook’s 81, could manage only 272 and mounted a deficit of 67 runs. Pakistan had the upper hand now. But, England bowlers did not let the game slip away completely as they bundled out Pakistan for just 215 in the 3rd innings, setting themselves a target of 282 runs.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as per plans as Pakistan bowlers bowled with more intent and did not give an inch to the opposition. Eventually, as it happened, the bowlers led by the fantastic Yasir Shah skittled out England just 207 and gave a winning start to the series
The pre-match build-up was surrounded by huge hype. All eyes were on Mohammad Amir, who had slammed brakes on his promising career due to the spot-fixing scandal. The young fast bowler’s comeback overshadowed the importance of the game.
However, all this hoopla were put to rest at a corner when both the teams came out to play the game. Pakistan put up a splendid all-round show and stunned the opposition to walk out of the prestigious venue with a sense of pride and great memories.
