Melbourne Renegades’ woeful form continues in Big Bash League 2019-20 as they suffered their 9th consecutive defeat in the ongoing tournament. The fans had lots of expectations from Renegades but they failed to live up to it and lost the game against Adelaide Strikers by a margin of 63 runs. It also helped them in grabbing two important points that took them to the third position with nine points in the league table.
Earlier, Strikers won the toss and elected to bat on their home ground in Adelaide. Their openers Jake Weatherald and Philip Salt helped their team in getting off to a blissful start. The duo stitched a swift partnership of 40 runs before it was broken by Renegades fast bowler Jack Wildermuth in the fourth over of the innings. Salt attempted to flick full-length delivery for a six but failed to time it well and Tom Cooper took an amazing catch near the fence on deep mid-wicket.
Jonathan Wells and Peter Siddle star as Adelaide Strikers move to the third position
In the very next over, Mohammad Nabi dismissed settled Weatherald that left the hosts struggling on a score of 50 runs for a loss of 2 wickets. Travis Head also failed to click a good knock with the bat as he could only manage to score 22 runs off 20 balls before getting dismissed off Cameron Boyce.
However, Jonathan Wells (58 runs off 38 balls) and Matthew Short (41 runs off 28 balls) stitched a brilliant partnership of 80 run and the duo rescued from the early setbacks. In the end, finally hosts managed to post a competitive total of 173 runs with six wickets in stipulated 20 overs.
Coming onto the chase, Renegades batting line-up yet again failed to pile runs and click good knocks with the bat. They got off to a poor start as they lost their opener, Marcus Harris, in the first over of the innings. In the next over, Sam Harper was dismissed by Peter Siddle and the visitors’ side were left struggling during their chase at Adelaide Oval.
Beau Webster from the middle-order tried to the best of his abilities to help his side in winning the game but his efforts went to vain. He didn’t get any good support from the receiving end due to which Renegades lost their ninth match in a row. Webster muscled 49 runs off 33 balls with four boundaries and two sixes.
Meanwhile, Strikers bowling unit did a commendable job with the ball. They didn’t allow visitors’ batsmen to get settled down on the wicket. For the hosts, Peter Siddle turned out to be the best bowler, who registered brilliant bowling figures of 3/14. He was well supported from the other end by his teammates as Travis Head and Rashid Khan took two wickets each.
The trio didn’t allow Renegades to play a total of 20 overs and they dismissed them on a score of 110 runs in 17.4 overs. In the end, Jonathan Wells was awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant knock studded with five boundaries and one massive six.

Peter Siddle with a 139km/h yorker to dismiss Sam Harper.
They're going to have to start winding back the clocks on top of all the churches in Adelaide, what an effort from Sids. #BBL09 #cricket pic.twitter.com/Nz96cBwJ8q

Dismissing players in a @BBL game one run short of a milestone

Whichever team #rashidkhan goes into in t20s becomes defense heavy. Starts defending improbable totals, be it SRH, Adelaide strikers or Afg.#BBL09

Even at 0-8 they were competitive, or at least mostly respectable in every match, but the, er, backside has really fallen out of the Melbourne Renegades, hasn't it?#BBL09

Reflection of how poorly Melbourne Renegades are batting – Travis Head has bowled out his spell of 4-overs in a T20 game only for the third time in his career
