After winning the first two games comfortably, Afghanistan entered this match being high on confidence. They won the toss and elected to bat first. Considering the ICC T20 World Cup is just around the corner, batting first will definitely keep the side ready for such situations in the mega tournament.
However, they did not get off to the start they would have liked. They scored 43 runs in the first six overs but lost the important wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz. The next three overs yielded only 14 runs but in the 10th over they finally broke the shackles. Karim Jannat showed his aggressive game and hit Faraz Akram for 14 runs off the last three balls of his over.
However, he was dismissed in the very next over. Usman Ghani scored 39 runs off 31 balls but could not convert his start into a big one. Najibullah Zadran who walked in at number four changed the momentum of the game. He scored 72 runs off 35 balls in a knock which included five fours and five sixes. He was well supported by captain Asghar Afghan who played a cameo of 24 runs off 12 balls.
Afghanistan seal the series 3-0 after 47 run win
Some brilliant death batting meant that the side reached 183 runs at the end of their 20 overs. The Zimbabwe bowlers went for plenty of runs but Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani took two wickets each. A chase of 184 was always going to be a tough one and some good bowling by the Afghanistan side made it enough tougher for Zimbabwe.
Fazal Haque took a wicket in the very first over as he dismissed the Zimbabwe opener. Tarisai Musakanda scored 30 runs off 28 balls but could not accelerate when needed. One led to another and the score went to 56-5 at the end of 10.3 overs. Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl former a good partnership of 80 runs.
Raza scored 41 runs while his partner contributed 39 runs. They failed to score at the rate required though and fell short by 47 runs. Karim did a good job with the ball as well as secured two wickets in the four overs he bowled. Afghanistan dominated this series by a long way. The Zimbabwe side still needs to improve a long way going ahead if they want to become a force in the T20 format.
