The Perth crowd witnessed Australia pull off a spectacular victory against the Pakistani team and lead the series 2-1. Earlier in the day, it was captain Steve Smith who won the toss as the hosts elected to field first. While Australia had Peter Handscomb and Billy Stanlake in their team, Pakistan played an unchanged XI from their last game.

The visitors had a good start to their innings. While captain Mohammed Hafeez was back to the pavilion, Sharjeel Khan continued his ferocious hitting. He went on to register his third half century in ODIs. However, once he got out, Shariq followed him which left Pakistan reeling at 99/3.

From there on, Babar Azam continued the good work and went on to score his sixth fifty in One-Day Internationals. He went on to top score with a superbly crafted inning of 84 runs which had just 4 boundaries and a maximum. In the process of this innings, he also equaled the record of being the fastest to reach 1000 runs in ODIs.

Some fine contributions by Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal paved way for Pakistan to have a respectable total on the board. The visitors went on to post a total of 263 at the loss of 7 wickets in their quota of 50 overs. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the Aussie bowlers with 3 wickets in his kitty.

The hosts began well before they lost David Warner and Usman Khawaja in successive overs. What followed was a fantastic 183 run partnership for the third wicket between Smith and Peter Handscomb. And again it was a masterclass inning coming from the bat of the Aussie skipper.

Scoring his 8th century in ODIs, Steve Smith scored a splendid 108 (104)* with 11 boundaries and a six. Peter Handscomb also managed to gain accolades for his fifty on debut as he went on to score 82 runs. He missed out on a century though as he was caught by Rizwan. Australia went on to win the game by 7 wickets.
