The game between Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans on Thursday turned out to be a fairly high-scoring one at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The game went right down to the last over when the Kings needed 23 runs off six balls. In the end, the Sultans won the game by 12 runs and registered their second win in PSL 2021. The Kings, in the meantime, lost their third game in the event.

Karachi Kings make a comeback after Sultans’ blazing start

After being put in to bat, the Sultans didn’t have a great start as Imad Wasim dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz stumped in the very first over. Sohaib Maqsood threw his bat around for a 14-ball 31, setting the tone of the innings. In the first 10 overs, Multan rocketed away as they managed 107 runs. Rilee Rossouw blazed away as he hammered 44 runs off 27 balls before getting out to Thisara Perera.

In the last 10 overs, the Kings pulled things back, conceding only 69 runs. Mohammad Rizwan had a torrid time as he got out after getting a 23-ball 29. Shimron Hetmyer flattered to deceive as he perished in the single digits to Perera. Khushdil Shah found the going tough earlier, but he stepped on the gas to end on a 32-ball 44. Shah’s knock meant that the Sultans got themselves up to 176.

Sultans romp home

The Kings strained inside the powerplay as they got only 31 runs with the required rate climbing to 10.42. Sharjeel Khan was unlucky as he was run out at the non-striker’s end after the ball deflected off Sohail Khan’s hands. Martin Guptill huffed and puffed after which Imran Tahir rattled his woodwork. In the last 10 overs, the Kings had a difficult task at hand with 115 runs at a rate of 11.5.

The onus was on Babar Azam and Najibullah to shepherd the Kings, but the latter became Tahir’s second victim. Babar notched his fifty off 45 balls and needed to press the accelerator. But it was Chadwick Walton, who stepped on the gas, scoring a 23-ball 35 before getting run out. Babar stayed unbeaten on 85 off 63 with five fours and four sixes, but his knock wasn’t enough for the Kings to win.
