It was time for the doubleheader Saturday and the first match was between the Karachi Kings and the Multan Sultans. The former won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Multan side had a task on their hands as no side thus far had won batting first.

They started their inning with a bang as Chris Lynn was at his aggressive best. His batting helped the team score 49 runs in their first four overs. He was dismissed soon after but a score of 32 runs in just 14 balls meant that he had done enough damage upfront.

Mohammad Rizwan and James Vince were then involved in a 70-run partnership to set things up for the finishers. Vince top-scored with 45 runs off 29 balls. Some good contributions from the lower order batsmen meant that the side finished with a score of 195 runs at the end of their 20 overs.

Babar Azam stars with an unbeaten 90-run knock

There was no stand-out bowler for the Kings, however, everyone chipped in with a wicket or two. It was now on the batsmen to chase down the total of 196 runs. They had a power-packed batting line-up which meant that the fans were definitely in for a good run chase.

Openers Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam did not disappoint as they were on top of their game since ball one. They took the side to a score of 68 runs at the end of the powerplay which meant that the game was set-up for a close finish. Even though Sharjeel was dismissed, captain Azam continued the fireworks from one end. He was well supported by Joe Clarke who was the more attacking of the two.

Clarke scored 54 runs off 26 balls and his knock included three boundaries and four sixes. However, it was Babar Azam who made sure that his team was safely over the line. His unbeaten 90 ensured that Karachi won the match with seven balls to spare.

Shahnawaz Dhani picked up a couple of wickets but the Kings cruised to a seven-wicket win. This was the third loss for the Multan side and they would now be under immense pressure to quickly turn things around.
