The Tri-series between Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe kicked off in Dhaka today. The hosts managed to register a completely one-sided victory against Zimbabwe. Earlier in the day, skipper Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss as Bangladesh elected to field first.

For a change, it was Shakib Al Hasan who began the proceedings for Bangladesh. It turned out to be a fantastic move for the hosts. The left arm orthodox had both Solomon Mire and Craig Ervine walking back to the pavilion in the very first over. The likes of Hamilton Masakadza, Brendan Taylor and Malcolm Waller tried to prolong their stay at the crease. However, they failed to make quite a difference. Sikandar Raza and Peter Moor tried to recover Zimbabwe from 81/5.

Both put up an important 50 run partnership for the sixth wicket. Sikandar Raza scored his eighth fifty in ODIs before getting out. Once Raza was dismissed, Bangladesh didn’t take long to clean up the tail as they were all out for 170 in the penultimate over.

Shakib Al Hasan was the pick amongst the bowlers with three wickets. Both Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain managed to get a couple of wickets each. Debutant Sunzamul Islam and skipper Mortaza accounted for a wicket each.

As for Bangladesh, they began well. Anamul Haque hit four boundaries before falling prey to Raza. Shakib Al Hasan was promoted to No.3. Both him and Tamim Iqbal put up a 78 run partnership for the second wicket.

While Iqbal scored a brilliant half century, Shakib was dismissed by Raza who got his second wicket. Bangladesh cruised to victory as they went on to win the game by an astounding 8 wickets. They did so with more than 21 runs to spare.
