Bangladesh came back from being 0-1 down and won the three-match series in style. The World Champions faltered twice in as many days in Florida and despite Andre Russell‘s crazy blitz, the hosts couldn’t seal the chase. The veteran stepping up to the task was the testament to their victory in the limited-overs leg of the tour and they would be overjoyed after what transpired in Tests.

After opting to bat first, the openers got Bangladesh off to a blistering start. They added 61 runs in just 28 deliveries thanks to the surprise counterattack from Liton Das. While all the focus was on Tamim Iqbal, his partner stole the limelight. Tamim was dismissed by Carlos Brathwaite and soon Soumya Sarkar was sent back by Keemo Paul. The run-scoring slowed down a bit after the fall of a couple of wickets even as Mushfiqur Rahim’s poor series was summed up.

He could only 12 off 14 balls. But Das was looking brilliant and played a gem of a knock of 61 runs from only 32 cherries. He smashed 6 fours and 3 gigantic maximums during his stay in the middle. Then the skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah joined hands to played important cameos to propel the team’s total to 184 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.

Russell blitz in vain

Windies lost their way early in the chase and were reduced to 32/3 in the powerplay. There was a lot of catching up to do for them and fightback started with a 45-run partnership between Denesh Ramdin and Rovman Powell. Rubel Hossain castled the former in the 12th over only to bring the dangerous Russell to the middle.

He scaled some huge overs with his brutal six-hitting prowess. From nowhere, Windies were coming back strongly in the contest despite wickets falling at the other end. He single-handedly scored 47 off just 21 balls with six maximums and a solitary four. But when 50 runs were needed off 3 overs, Mustafizur Rahman delivered a killing blow as the powerful batsman couldn’t clear the long-off fielder trying to belt a low full toss.

The game was finished ideally with his wicket and even the heavens opened up to stop the play which never started again. The hosts lost the game by 19 runs according to the Duckworth Lewis Stern method as the Tigers completed a stunning fightback in the series.
