The second match between the Jozi Stars and Nelson Mandela Giants hardly lived up to the expectations. On a track where there were a plethora of runs on offer, the match turned out to be a one-sided and a low-scoring one. The home team collapsed with the bat at the Bullring disappointing all the fans who turned up at the venue. The game was all about the bowlers from both the sides and England’s Ben Duckett.

The Jozi Stars collapse from 68/2 to 94/7

Chris Gayle looked to be threatening initially after the Jozi Stars were put into bat first. The Jamaican all-rounder was dropped when he was on 4 and went on to get some big hits going. However, he perished after scoring 23. Only four batsmen in the entire batting line-up managed to cross 10 runs. Rassie van der Dussen also scored an identical 19-ball 23 just like Gayle.

The side was going along well and they were 68/2 at one stage. Skipper Dane Vilas looked good out there in the middle. But, all of a sudden, they lost five wickets for just 25 runs putting them in all sorts of trouble. Even though Vilas was unbeaten on 38, he crawled through his way and took 34 balls. At the same time, however, he didn’t have the license to go for the big shots with wickets falling at the other end. Giants’ skipper JJ Smuts picked a 3-wicket haul in the innings.

Ben Duckett bats with a hit out or get out approach

The Nelson Mandela Bay Giants lost both their openers for ducks and the side was under immense pressure. However, Ben Duckett went all guns blazing right from the moment he walked in. He smashed 5 sixes and 5 fours in his innings and carried his onslaught to the bowlers to scored 75 off just 45 deliveries.

The next highest score in the innings was only 15 runs from Rudi Second which shows the kind of impact that he had on the chase. However, after he fell, the other batsmen really slowed down things and played extremely cautious cricket. The team needed 16 runs off 9 balls after he got out to secure a bonus point. However, they took 21 balls to do the same.

Twitterati was elated to watch Ben Duckett bat the way he did. But, there was also some great disappointment because of the low-scoring game at a venue like the Bullring. The fans didn’t seem to enjoy the performance from Chris Gayle on whom there were high expectations.
