Nothing seems to be going right for the Jozi Stars in this edition of the Mzansi Super League (MSL). The team lost yet another game in the tournament – their fourth already – after Junior Dala and Imran Tahir ripped them apart. Playing at home, the Jozi Stars won the toss and opted to bat first in the game against the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants. However, this move didn’t work in their favour.
Terrific delivery from Junior Dala got Chris Gayle for 11 runs while his partner Reeza Hendricks was dismissed for 6. Skipper Temba Bavuma tried to bring the Stars back into the game. But he kept losing partners one after the other. After Bavuma mustered 27 runs, it was Junior Dala who got the better of him. Meanwhile, Imran Tahir ran through the middle-order and picked some important wickets.
Three-wicket hauls from Junior Dala and Imran Tahir helped bowl out the Jozi Stars for just 108 runs in 18.5 overs. Only four batsmen managed to get to the double figures.
Ben Dunk and Jason Roy provide the Giants with a lightning start in an easy chase
Chasing 109 runs was never going to be difficult for the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants on a good batting track. And that too, when you have someone like Jason Roy who can get you off the blocks within no time, the job gets that much easier. The England cricketer played some terrific cricket early on. He smashed four fours and two sixes before Duanne Olivier dismissed him for 31 off 12 balls.
His partner, Ben Dunk, ensured that he didn’t lose his wicket. Along with captain JJ Smuts, he played a responsible knock and remained unbeaten on 50 off 30 balls. Smuts, on the other hand, scored 23 runs from 14 balls. The Nelson Mandela Bay Giants managed to complete the chase in just 9.1 overs and with 9 wickets remaining.
This massive victory has taken them to the top of the points table with 11 points and an NRR of +3.222. Twitterati was thrilled with this brilliant performance from the team. They congratulated Junior Dala and Imran Tahir for their bowling spells. The fans thoroughly enjoyed the exploits of Jason Roy.
Here is how Twitterati reacted:
Dala yorked Chris Gayle the ball after the Jamaican slashed him for six, and then removed Kagiso Rabada and Bavuma in his second spell. He finished with the Player of the Match performance of 3 for 19 👏🏏🔥🇿🇦

I think Chris Gyle is overrated. @msljozistars wasted a lot of money on him

So much for having Chris Gayle in your squad..

Chris Gayle is an over-rated and over-paid clown!

Also I see Chris Gayle as big liability. He past his sell by date bro

Our squad biggest headache is Gayle or Christian…..🤞🤞🤞🤞

Chris Gayle isn't serious about MSL to be honest.. He has been shocking to say the least.
I guess he came here to collect his coins and leave.

Only 2844 in attendance for today's Mzansi Super League match between defending champions Jozi Stars and the NMB Giants on a weekend at the Wanderers! Entry apparently free for the first 1000 people too. Poor crowds all around for the #MSL2019 so far. Very disappointing. #MSLT20
