The Sydney Thunder thumped the Perth Scorchers by 6 wickets in their most recent BBL encounter of the season. It was a whirlwind ton from veteran batter Callum Ferguson that powered the Thunder to their 5th win of the season. Ferguson remained unbeaten on 113 as the Thunder chased down 181 in 19.4 overs to register the win.

The herculean effort from Ferguson is being hailed as the knock that could potential be the resurgence of this long lost player of the Australian cricketing circuit. The fans are going gaga over the knock, and they believe that this career defining knock can pretty well serve his cause for a berth in the Australian squad for the ICC World Cup 2019.

Coming to the match, the Sydney Thunder won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Perth Scorchers lost Cameron Bancroft early in the game. The Marsh brothers, Shaun Marsh and Mitch Marsh, then added 58 runs to resurrect the innings. While Mitch Marsh was dismissed on 31, it was Shaun’s unbeaten 96 off 55 deliveries that helped Scorchers build a mammoth total on the board. Hilton Cartwright and Nick Hobson contributed with 20 and 15* respectively towards the end of the innings to see their side post 181/4 in the stipulated 20 overs.

In the run chase, the Thunder lost their skipper Shane Watson on 8. Matthew Gilkes scored a fine 51 en route his 120-run stand for the second wicket with Callum Ferguson. But the run chase was all about Ferguson. He smashed 113 off just 53 deliveries, with 8 sixes and as many number of fours, to register only the second century of BBL 08, Shane Watson being the other player to do so.

With the win, the Thunder have now moved to the fourth spot in the points table, while the Scorchers languish at the bottom. While the end result has been great for the Thunder, the day certainly does belong to Ferguson. With such knock in frame, and at the same time, having dwindling fortunes of the national side, one would safely assume that Ferguson could pretty well stage a national comeback. From Tim Paine to Tom Moody, the praises galore for the batter after the match.

Here is how the fans reacted to the match and to Ferguson’s knock:
