After the Dre-Russ massacre in their previous encounter, the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) were up against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. It is the all-rounders yet again who have hurt the defending champions in this game. Ben Cutting and Carlos Brathwaite were truly brilliant with their overall skill and played a crucial role in helping their side win.

The Knights lost by 42 runs making it the second consecutive loss for them. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots moved up in the points table slightly with their first win of the season. Guyana Amazon Warriors lead the table at the moment.

Carlos Brathwaite weaves some magic with the bat

After being put into bat first, the Patriots suffered a double blow right in the first over. Ali Khan dismissed Evin Lewis for a duck and went on to pick the wicket of Tom Cooper in the same over. Hence, the side was down to 3/2 early on. Although skipper Chris Gayle and Devon Thomas built a 66-run partnership from there on, the runs didn’t come at a fair clip. Gayle got out after scoring 35 off 30 balls.

Although Thomas scored 58 off 34 balls, he didn’t have much support from the other batsmen. He got out when the team’s score was 120 and it was soon down to 141/6 after 16 overs. Getting 175 runs looked tough. But the Patriots managed to get 62 runs in the last four overs. Carlos Brathwaite was spitting fire as he scored 41 off just 15 balls. Ben Cutting complemented him with an 18-ball 25-run knock as they put up a massive total of 203 runs on the board with the loss of 7 wickets.

Knights lose their way

After piling on a massive total of over 200 in the last game, the Knights’ batting didn’t come as good as one would expect. Both their openers, Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine were dismissed for low scores. Furthermore, Brendon McCullum got out for a duck. Although Colin Munro tried hard, he perished after scoring 35 off 17 balls.

Darren Bravo scored 41 runs but those came off 38 balls which is unacceptable in a high-scoring run-chase. Even though Kevon Cooper scored 42 off 22 balls towards the end, it was just too late. In their quota of 20 overs, the Knights managed to score 161 runs for the loss of 8 wickets falling short of the target by 42 runs.

Twitterati was quite disappointed with the Knight Riders losing the game. It was all praise for Sandeep Lamichhane who was brilliant yet again in his second match as well.
