Stats: Andre Russell's one-man show for Jamaica Tallawahs trumps Trinbago Knight Riders

Trinbago Knight Riders looked set to achieve their second consecutive big win in the CPL 2018 after reducing the Jamaica Tallawahs to 41/5 during the defence of their total of 223/6. However, the new skipper of Tallawahs, Andre Russell, batted ruthlessly after being dropped on the very first ball he faced. The all-rounder smashed an unbeaten 121 off 49 balls with six fours and 13 maximums to take his team home with three balls and four wickets to spare.

All the major stats and numbers that were recorded during the high-scoring thriller:

0 – Number of totals higher than 220 in the history of Caribbean Premier League before this game. The previous highest total in CPL was 212/5 by Guyana Amazon Warriors in 2014 against Antigua Hawksbills.

The scores of 225 and 223 are also the highest totals in the T20 format in West Indies. St Kitts and Nevis made 213/3 against Antigua in the 2006 domestic T20 game, which was the previous highest T20 total in West Indies.


2 – Andre Russell’s hat-trick in this game is only the 2nd in the history of CPL. Rashid Khan registered the first hat-trick of CPL in 2017 for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Eliminator game against Jamaica Tallawahs.


2 – Russell became only the 2nd player after Joe Denly to score a century and take a hat-trick in the same Twenty20 game. The English player achieved this feat in the T20 Blast game last month.


13 – Andre Russell’s 13 sixes in the game are the most in a CPL innings thus far. Chris Gayle and Russell hit 11 sixes each playing for Jamaica in 2016 also against Trinbago in two different matches.

Russell’s 13 sixes are also the most in a T20 innings in West Indies surpassing 12 sixes hit by Gayle and Evin Lewis in 2013 and 2017 respectively.


29 – A total of 29 sixes were hit in this game which is the most in a CPL game going past 27 sixes on two different occasions. The Tallawahs hit 15 sixes while Knight Riders smashed 14 of them.


40 – Russell’s 40-ball century is the fastest hundred in the CPL surpassing his own record of a 42-ball hundred also against Trinbago Knight Riders in 2016.


121* – His unbeaten 121 is the highest individual innings in the CPL surpassing Chris Gayle’s 111* also for Tallawahs against St Lucia Zouks in 2014.


121* – Rusell became the first player to score a century batting at No.7 and a lower position in the Twenty20 format. His innings of 121 is also the highest individual T20 score batting at No.6 and lower surpassing Daniel Christian’s 113* while batting at six during the T20 Blast game in July.


161 – The 161-run partnership for the 6th wicket between Russell and Kennar Lewis is the highest partnership in the Twenty20 format for the 5th wicket and lower.

Hashim Amla and Dwayne Bravo shared 150 for the 5th wicket in the CPL 2016 game against Barbados Tridents. Durham’s Callum MacLeod and John Hastings’ partnership of 126* in the 2014 T20 blast against Northamptonshire was the previous highest 6th wicket stand in this format.


448 – The match aggregate of 448 runs is only 2nd Twenty20 game in the West Indies where more than 400 runs were scored. The CPL game between Guyana and St Lucia in 2014 aggregated 405 runs. The 224-run chase by Jamaica is overall the joint 5th highest successful run-chase in the Twenty20 cricket.
