Twitter Reactions: Chamari Athapaththu, Radha Yadav smother Trailblazers to book finals berth for Supernovas

The third and final game of the 2020 Women’s T20 Challenge between Trailblazers and Supernovas turned out to be an exciting one. The game went right down to the wire and in the end, it was the Supernovas, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, emerged victorious by two runs. They also made the final where they fill again be facing the Trailblazers. Meanwhile, the Velocity have been knocked out.

Athapaththu steals the show

After the Supernovas elected to bat first, they started in an aggressive manner. Though Priya Punia found it tough to get going initially, Chamari Athapaththu made sure that they hammer 50 runs in the powerplay. Punia, once she got her eyes in, smashed three fours and scored 30 runs off 37 balls. She also stitched together a handy partnership of 89 runs off 72 balls along with Athapaththu.

Bangladesh’s Salma Khatun got rid of Punia to separate the duo. Athapaththu went on to notch a half-century off 37 balls. The southpaw, in the end, scored 67 runs off 48 balls. Her stupendous knock was laced with five fours and four sixes. Harmanpreet Kaur got 31 runs with a four and a six at the death. The Supernovas went on to score 146 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs.

Deepti, Harleen’s efforts went in vain

Deandra Dottin carried on from where she left against the Velocity. The opener blazed his way to 27 runs off 15 balls with four fours and a six. She got out fast bowler Shakera Selman, who gave the Supernovas their first breakthrough. The Trailblazers started well courtesy an opening wicket stand of 44 runs between Dottin and Smriti Mandhana, who strained her way to 33 runs off 40 balls.

Mandhana perished after giving Anuja Patil a simple caught and bowled chance. Richa Ghosh started with a four but then got out to Selman. Dayalan Hemalatha was the fourth wicket to go down. With the required rate at 11 in the last four overs, Deepti Sharma (43*) and Harleen Deol (27) came to the party. The duo put on a half-century stand, but their efforts weren’t enough for the Trailblazers.
