Twitter Reactions: Chris Gayle flirts with BBL anchor faces strong criticism

Chris Gayle is known to be a character. He does all that what is needed with his bat and once he switches off that mode he is still unstoppable a player. He has always been a party animal and has girls hanging around him all around the world; but this time, he probably chose the wrong platform and the wrong girl to ask out. While BBL anchor Mel McLaughlin was interviewing him after his stormy knock of 41 he said, “I wanted to come and have an interview with you as well,”

“That’s the reason why I’m here, just to see your eyes for the first time. It’s nice so. Hopefully we can win this game and have a drink after. Don’t blush, baby.”

Anthony Everard the head of the BBL who was also in attendance during the game, sharply criticized Gayle’s comments. He said, “I heard Chris’ comments and they’re disrespectful and simply inappropriate,”

“We’ll certainly be talking to him and the Renegades about it. This league is all about its appeal to kids, families and females. There’s just no place in the BBL – or, for that matter, cricket anywhere – for that sort of behaviour.”

Melbourne Renegades’ Chief Executive Stuart Coventry responded in a similar tone to Everard and said, “There is just no place for that sort of behaviour”.

David Barham, Channel Ten’s head of sport, was quoted by The Herald Sun saying, “We will be seeking an apology,”

He also added that they were “deeply offended” by Gayle’s comments. “We won’t be using him in the game anymore. Unless things change in the next few days, it’s not happening. It was totally inappropriate behaviour. Mel’s a working journalist doing a job.”
