Chris Lynn has been a stalwart for the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League (BBL). Hence, coming into the ongoing edition, a lot was expected of the Queenslander. The onus was on Lynn to deliver, both as a skipper and batsman. In the first two games against Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder, Lynn saw his team go down. In those games, he could only manage scores of nine and six.

Lynn and Heat were under a bit of pressure prior to their match against the Sydney Sixers at the Sydney Cricket Ground. However, the Brisbane-born didn’t allow the pressure to unnerve him and turned up with a knock of 94 runs from a mere 35 balls. On an excellent batting strip, the Sixers opted to field first and the decision backfired as Lynn absolutely took them to the cleaners.

Chris Lynn goes berserk at the SCG

He opened his account with a colossal six down the ground off Sean Abbott. Lynn became unstoppable from there on. It was a one-man show in the mandatory powerplay as the right-hander scored 61 off the 73 runs with non-striker Sam Heazlett being a mere spectator. Lynn got to his half-century off a mere 20 balls and outdrew anyone and everyone, who stumbled on to his path.

Lynn didn’t drop in intensity and kept going after the bowling with all his might. When he was on 76, the batter decided to reach his century with sixes. Lynn smacked leg-spinner Lloyd Pope over the bowler’s head. Then he deposited Ben Manenti for a couple of more sixes. In the fourth ball of Manenti’s over, Lynn chanced his arms to clear the long-on fence and accomplish his ton.

To his dismay, he couldn’t time the ball and hit the leather straight down the throat of Abbott, who took a well-judged catch. Had Lynn cleared the ropes, he would have gotten the fastest ever century in the BBL, breaking the one that was created off 39 balls. The Heat were on 115 runs in the 10th over out of which Lynn scored 94, showing how much dominance the opener had on the bowling.

Here is how Twitterati lauded Chris Lynn for the blitzkrieg:-
