Twitter Reactions: Chris Woakes runs riot as top 3 Indian batsmen depart early

The Cuttack ODI which has the potential of being the decisive match of the series Virat Kohli flipped the coin but it didn’t really flip and turned in Eoin Morgan’s favour and he was certain they wanted to bowl first. The Barabati Stadium was brimming with enthusiastic fans most dressed in blues but they were in for an early shock as the English bowlers especially Chris Woakes stuck to the task, bowled planned lines and were rewarded.
The first to go was KL Rahul who had a shorter outing in the first ODI as well. He was squared up by a ball that pitched just on the off-stump and moved slightly away after pitching off the seam and he edged it to second slip. Ben Stokes in position for something similar took an excellent catch diving to his left. In walked Virat Kohli and everyone was excited.
England had a 7:2 field in place to tackle the Kohli challenge but Woakes pitched the ball up and he had little trouble driving it down the ground for a boundary, on the third ball he bettered the shot and it was another beautiful drive to the boundary. Things didn’t look too good for England as the Indian skipper who has been in magnificent form started off on a superb note. But he misjudged the last ball of the over and the Indian fans couldn’t believe it.
He was expecting a Yorker and just opened the face of the bat to slice it but the ball wasn’t as up as he expected and he bumped his bat in the ground only for it to take the outside edge and Stokes was in business yet again. This was a more regulation catch and England had the big wicket only in the 3rd over.

The Indian team was in trouble having lost the skipper but Woakes wasn’t done with his first spell yet. He came back in the 5th over to scalp Shikhar Dhawan. The left-hander who had hit some beautiful drives and had survived via a dropped chance went for an expansive drive on a much fuller ball and got a thick inside edge onto his stumps. The hosts were three down for just 25 and things didn’t look really good.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the early dismissals:
First time since 2010 India have lost 3 wkts within first 5 overs in an ODI. Last was v SL in Dhaka in Jan 2010. #INDvENG
