Cape Town Blitz, the early tournament favourites, are building on from strength to strength as they move forward. Even since the Proteas stars have joined the side, it looks to be a formidable force and is a team to beat. Quinton de Kock and Janneman Malan, with their terrific knocks, helped the side register their fourth consecutive win in the tournament by defeating the Jozi Stars by a huge margin.
De Kock hits a half-century within the powerplay
The Stars put the visitors into bat first in this match after winning the toss. The openers, with some belligerent stroke-play, added 99 runs for the opening wicket in just 9.1 overs. De Kock found his touch back and got his fifty in just 24 balls after he smashed Kagiso Rabada for two consecutive sixes and a four in the sixth over.
His partner, yet again, was highly impressive. Jannerman Malan registered his second fifty of the tournament and scored 66 off 43 balls. Having crossed 150 in the 15th over, they looked all set to put up anything around 210 or 220. But the Stars pulled things back with some good death bowling and restricted Blitz to 198 runs.
The bowlers put up a collective effort
With this kind of scoreboard pressure, it is never easy to recover after a top-order failure. The Jozi Stars suffered a similar fate as two of their top three batsmen were dismissed for ducks. The middle-order tried hard to put things back on track, but the 20-plus scores were never going to be enough. Anrich Nortje and George Linde picked three wickets each as the home team lost the game by a massive 62 runs.
Twitterati was over the moon to see Quinton de Kock get back in form. The left-hander hasn’t had the best of outings in recent times. Also, many were stunned with the consistency from Janneman Malan and it was all praise for the Cape Town Blitz. With 18 points, they now sit comprehensively at the top of the points table.
Here is how Twitterati reacted:
