West Indies took on South Africa in the first match of the tri-series which also involves Australia. Winning the toss, South Africa elected to bat first. Both Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine were back to represent West Indies after a long time. South Africa went ahead with 2 spinners, Imran Tahir and Aron Phangiso.
Batting first, SA began well before both openers got out in quick succession. AB de Villiers built up a good partnership to follow but as soon as he lost his wicket, the Proteas were in a spot of bother. From 160/3, South Africa were reduced to a mere total of 188 all out.
Comeback man Narine spun a web around the batsmen. Carlos Brathwaite, Jason Holder and Jerome Taylor also bowled some good spells, but it was Narine who stole the limelight with astounding figures of 6/27.
For the West Indies, the Protean spinners did apply the brakes to the West Indian inning before another comeback man Pollard played a gem of a knock 67 (67) as he took West Indies to victory against the mighty Proteas. Darren Bravo supported him well.

In the end, West Indies won quite comfortably by 4 wickets with 11 balls to spare. Phangiso got 3 wickets while Tahir got a couple as they failed to restrict the Windies. Sunil Narine was deservingly announced the man of the match for his superb bowling figures.
Twitter garnered a lot of interest for the first ODI in a long time after the T20 season. Right from lauding Narine to trolling Protean batsmen, right from lauding Pollard to trolling SA decisions, here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game:

If I were batting against Imran Tahir, I’d celebrate every run like he does a wicket. It’d slow the game down but it’d be worth it. #WIvSA

If Tahir takes few more wickets he will probably reach India by running before next IPL. #SAvWI
