‘Congratulations to DC in advance’ - Netizens fail to understand Grace Harris' exclusion from UP Warriorz XI against Delhi Capitals

UP Warriorz made a rather bold call as the side decided to drop star player Grace Harris in their clash against Delhi Capitals in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL). Despite helping her team cross the finishing line in the previous encounter against Gujarat Giants, Harris will be seen warming the bench against Delhi.

The two sides have locked horns at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai as the Healy-led Warriorz have won the toss and elected field first. At the toss, Healy confirmed the exclusion of Grace Harris as the side named one change in the XI bringing in Shabnim Ismail.

In their previous match, Gujarat Giants attained a solid total of 169 runs in their first innings. Courtesy of a Kim Garth special during the run chase, Gujarat further extended their dominance as the bowler scalped a majestic five-wicket haul.

The knock by Harris came when the side had almost lost every hope of obtaining a win as multiple wickets had fallen during the chase. Grace stitched a quickfire 70-run stand off 25 balls with Sophie Ecclestone which entirely changed the complexion of the game.

Harris carved out an incredible knock as she got her fifty in mere 25 balls which included seven fours and two maximums. She further remained unbeaten throughout the course of the chase and dispatched one into the stands with a maximum to clinch the contest.

The Aussie all-rounder’s magical knock (59* runs off 26 balls) helped the side obtain a win from the jaws of defeat. Despite her impressive innings, the side decided to field Shabnim Ismail in the clash against Meg Lanning’s Delhi.

Shabnim played a key role in South Africa's dream run in the recently concluded Women's T20 World Cup 2023. In any case, dropping the star Aussie player could cost Warriorz, however, it remains to be seen what transpires as both teams are riding high on the back of wins in their previous game.
