Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav who has been in and out of the Indian squad post the 2019 World Cup has since then missed out on two editions of the T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022 respectively. He must have heaved a sigh of relief when he was selected for the ongoing white-ball series in New Zealand.
Unfortunately for Kuldeep, he once again had to wait another day to prove his mettle as he was benched for the second T20I at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday, November 20 as the team management decided to go with two frontline spinners- leggie Yuzvendra Chahal and spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar.
Apart from these two, even middle order batter Deepak Hooda can roll his arms over which could have refrained the management from including an additional spinner in the form of Yadav.
Kuldeep hasn't played many T20Is in recent times
When Kuldeep Yadav and his good friend as well as spin bowling partner Yuzvendra Chahal had posted a for a social media photograph a few days ago, fans felt that they would finally be able to see ‘KulCha’ back in action in the ongoing New Zealand series.
However, that was not to be as only Chahal who was not picked for the entire T20 World Cup was given an opportunity to prove a point. He was included in the playing XI as the only seasoned spinner. Kuldeep Yadav has been waiting patiently for his opportunities despite finishing as the fifth-best bowler in IPL 2022 having registered 21 scalps to his name from 14 matches representing the Delhi Capitals.
Just like Kuldeep, even Sanju Samson had to warm the bench for this contest, with Rishabh Pant being selected in the XI as the first-choice stumper. Meanwhile, the fans were very annoyed with the team management who promised a lot about innovations and new dynamics with an eye on the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 that is scheduled to be held in the Caribbean and the USA.
Nonetheless, they expressed their disappointment on social media as Kuldeep Yadav was benched for the second game and made it clear that they are unimpressed with this move.
Here are some of the reactions:
No Shubman Gill, No Sanju Samson, No Kuldeep Yadav, No Umran Malik

Now Tell Me This Is A Joke 😡😡😡😡
India returns to do the same again where Sanju Samson is, why Umran Malik is still on bench. At least learn anything from the world cup. #INDvsNZ #UmranMalik #SanjuSamson #kuldeepyadav

Players on bench today for India:
— Mishra Ji🇮🇳🇦🇫 (@MishraJiCricket) November 20, 2022
-Shubman Gill
-Sanju Samson
-Umran Malik
-Kuldeep Yadav
-Harshal Patel
Gill, Samson, Umran & Kuldeep should replace Ishan, Hooda, Siraj & Chahal in the next game.
We should move on from Harshal and Deepak Hooda, don't know why he's in the XI.
The same decisions that cost us 2 world cups still continuing, to play with defensive bowlers. Where is Umran, where is Kuldeep Yadav?? I mean washi, and still continuing with bhuvi?? #INDvsNZ

Plz replace kuldeep yadav with bhuvneshwar kumar as kuldeep yadav comes with more pace and spin with the ball than bhuvneshwar

Want to see new players like umran Malik in this series kuldeep yadav and Washington Sundar also want to Sanju Samson opening with shubmangill considering the short dimensions of the grounds in newzealand even 250 can be achieved if batsmen hit continuous sixes n fours
