Chennai Super Kings' legendary skipper MS Dhoni, who is leading the Chennai-based franchise for the 200th time in IPL, was felicitated by former ICC chairman and former BCCI president N. Srinivasan ahead of the game against Rajasthan Royals at Chepauk. Dhoni was presented with a special memento on his incredible feat by the CSK owner.
Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni becomes the first cricketer to lead an IPL team in 200 matches as he prepares to take on Rajasthan Royals in his side's second home match of the season. Dhoni, who holds the record for playing the most matches as a captain in the cash-rich league, is the second-most successful captain in the history of the competition, with four IPL titles to his name.
Dhoni, who led the Indian team to two World Cup titles during his tenure as the national skipper, has been an ever-present figure for the Yellow Army since the inception of the tournament in 2008. Apart from Chennai Super Kings, the iconic cricketer also led the lines for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant in 14 matches in IPL 2016.
CSK had appointed star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to lead the side in IPL 2022, but Jadeja relinquished the role after a horrendous start to the campaign, as Dhoni took over the reins to stabilize the team. The four-time champions lost their opening match of IPL 2023 against reigning champions Gujarat Titans, but have bounced back with two consecutive victories since then under Dhoni's leadership.
While there have been rumours that the 41-year-old might be playing his last season this year, the enigmatic leader is showing no signs of slowing after starting the campaign with a bang.
