IPL 2024: MI vs KKR Today's Match Highlights: Unmissable video recap, turning points, match analysis, stats and more

Mumbai Indians (MI) played against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 51 of IPL 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first against the mighty KKR. Kolkata Knight Riders put up a score of 169 runs and were all out in 19.5 overs. However, Mumbai Indians were all dismissed for just 145 runs in 18.5 overs. 

KKR beat MI for the first time in 12 years at the Wankhede Stadium. It was an interesting match as both the teams lost early wickets and it was difficult to say which team would win. After today's win, Kolkata Knight Riders remain on the second position after Rajasthan Royals because of the NRR. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians' hopes to qualify for the playoffs have died as they have lost 8 matches out of the 11 they have played in IPL 2024.

1. Venkatesh Iyer saved KKR from putting up a low score on board

Kolkata Knight Riders had a rough start as the MI bowlers dismissed their opening order too soon and it seemed difficult for them to even score 120+. KKR were 60/5 in just 7 overs. But then came in, Venkatesh Iyer to bat and with 6 fours and 3 sixes scored 70 runs off 52 balls alongside KKR's impact player Manish Pandey who scored 42 runs off 31 balls and scored 169 for KKR against Mumbai Indians. He was also awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding innings. 

2. Mitchell Starc on fire

Australian left-arm fast bowler who is also the costliest bid of IPL 2024 has been in phenomenal form this season. He took 4 wickets by giving 33 runs in 3.5 overs with an economy of 8.61 against Mumbai Indians in match 51 on Friday.  Mitchell Starc has taken 11 wickets in 9 matches with an economy of 11.40. He showed a class performance ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. 

3. KKR spinners web the MI batters

Kolkata Knight Riders' spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine were in form and did not let MI batters chase the score. They cramped MI batters by giving off 44 runs in 8 overs with 4 wickets combined. They were in great form against the Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. The credit should be given to the spinners as well for beating MI at their home ground as they last won against the Indians in 2012. 

4. Mumbai Indians' yet another defeat in IPL 2024

A batting lineup like Mumbai Indians where Rohit Sharma who was also the impact player in the match, Tilak Varma, and Suryakumar Yadav etc are there in the squad, they have not been able to perform well in this season of the IPL. They could not chase a target of 170 runs even when there was dew. They could have taken advantage of this as the bowl doesn't spin in the second innings when the due is there. It has not been a good season for the five-time champions. After the loss against Kolkata Knight Riders, MI have lost all chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
