As the enthralling T20 action continued in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023, Sunrisers Hyderabad locked horns with Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday, April 29. Well, the weekend did give the DC fans a thing to cherish as their star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh showcased a mindboggling display of medium-pace bowling in the first innings of the game.
For SRH, while Mayank Agarwal (five runs off six balls) fell prey to Ishant Sharma, his opening partner Abhishek Sharma (67 runs off 36 balls) played a scintillating knock to gain an upper hand in the game. However, he did not get any support from other batters, as Mitchell Marsh broke through the gates of the middle order. The fifth over of the innings and Marsh's first over went for only four runs, as he also got the scalp of dangerous-looking Rahul Tripathi (10 off 6).
After doing his job in the powerplay, Marsh returned in the tenth over to completely baffle Aiden Markram (8 off 13) and Harry Brook (0 off 2) on the second and fourth ball of the over, respectively. Notably, this over also turned out to be a maiden over, as the batters were unable to break free courtesy of a tight line and length bowled by the Aussie.
Midway of the innings, SRH were in all sorts of trouble as they lost four wickets for a tally of 83 runs. Additionally, with the pressure created off Marsh's astonishing feat, well-set Abhishek, too, lost his wicket off Axar Patel's bowling in an attempt to up the ante and continue the flow of runs, but it was not before he played a blistering knock of 67 runs off just 36 balls compiling 13 boundaries in total, which also included a maximum.
Albeit, Marsh did not rest his case there, as he came back into the attack in the 17th over to dismiss Abdul Samad. Throughout his spell, the Attadale-born nailed his slower ones to perfection while also delivering quite a few off-cutters to see the visitors never look settle against his bowling.
As the Aussie lad broke through the batting line-up of the opposition in the first innings with a brilliant four-fer, he decided to take the bowling attack to cleaners, smashing everything that came his way. He played at a blistering strike rate of 178.57 to compile a quickfire half-century off just 28 balls. He finally got dismissed off Akeal Hosein's bowling to end his stay at the crease. The way he partnered with Phil Salt after skipper Warner's early wicket made things look rather easy for the home side.
