Day 1 of the second Test match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi saw both sides making merry on what seems to be another batting paradise. While Pakistan bowlers toiled hard in the beginning, they ensured to end the day with six Kiwi wickets with the opposition having scored over 300.

The visiting captain Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bat first, and opener Devon Conway once again proved why he is one of New Zealand’s most reliable batters as he scored a well-deserved ton. The bowlers came up with all tactics but the opening duo of Conway and Tom Latham made the most of the flat track.

Latham played a good supporting hand, scoring 71 runs off 100 and laid a solid foundation for New Zealand by adding 134 runs along with Conway for the opening stand. Conway, on the other hand, seemed to be going from strength-to-strength after scoring his century before being caught behind by Sarfaraz Ahmed off Agha Salman for 122 off 191.

After the duo’s dismissal, the Blackcaps completely lost their plot as the Pakistani bowlers staged a remarkable comeback and ran through their middle-order. New Zealand were reduced from a comfortable 134/0 to 279/6, however, Tom Blundell (30*) and Ish Sodhi (11*) ensured that no further damage was done as they finished the day at 309/6.
