The Durban Super Giants completed a resounding victory over a star-studded MI Cape Town to clinch their first win of the ongoing SA20 2023. Quinton de Kock's men were a cut above their opponents in all departments, churning out a comfortable victory by five wickets in the end. Kyle Mayers was named the player of the match for his all-round show in Cape Town.

Chasing a par total at best, the Durban Super Giants got off to a flier as Kyle Mayers and his skipper Quinton de Kock took full advantage of the field restrictions. By the time both the openers were dismissed, the Super Giants were already on their way to securing their first win of the tournament.

Wiaan Mulder and Heinrich Klaasen extinguished all hopes of an unlikely comeback from the home side with their solid partnership. They did get a scare when both the set batters were dismissed, but the experience of former Windies skipper Jason Holder coupled with Keemo Paul's blistering cameo ensured that Durban got off the mark in the points table with a convincing win in Cape Town.

Durban bowlers put on a brilliant display with the ball

Put into bat first by the Durban Super Giants, the MI Cape Town got off to the worst possible start as their star opener and last match's hero Dewald Brevis was cleaned up by a terrific yorker without disturbing the scorers. His opening partner Ryan Rickelton also fell cheaply before Rassie van der Dussen and Sam Curran were dismissed in one over to compound the misery for the hosts.

With the team reeling at 45/4, Grant Roelofsen dug in from one end, receiving valiant support from George Linde. The duo stitched together a combative stand for the fifth wicket, setting their sights on a competitive score. But their hopes were shortlived as both the set batters were dismissed on consecutive deliveries to dent Cape Town's hopes of a strong finish.

However, Protean all-rounder Delano Potgieter ensured that the bowlers had something to bowl at after his swashbuckling 25 off just 11 deliveries that included three maximums. Reece Topley, Hardus Viljoen and
Prenelan Subrayen grabbed two wickets each as the MI Cape Town were restricted to a par total of 152 runs.
