India took on United States of America in Match 25 of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County Stadium in New York on June 12. India won the toss and opted to field first. Indian bowlers were all over USA batters as they picked wickets for fun in the powerplay. Steven Taylor and Nitish Kumar were the only saving grace as they scored 24 and 27 respectively. Corey Anderson pitched in with 15 runs and on the back of Arshdeep Singh’s four-fer, India restricted USA to 110 runs.
While chasing, Saurabh Netravalkar provided an ideal start for USA by picking Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in consecutive overs. Rishabh Pant played a gritty innings of 18 runs and was cleaned up by Ali Khan. The onus fell on Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube and the duo put up a 67-run stand for the fourth wicket. While SKY scored an unbeaten 50 off 49, Dube partnered him well with his 31 off 35 balls. India emerged victorious by seven wickets and qualified for the Super 8 stage.
Here are some highlights from USA vs India match -
1. Arshdeep Singh picks wicket on the first ball of the innings
Arshdeep gave India a fiery start as he dismissed Shayan Jahangir on the very first ball. Jahangir was caught plumb in front of the wicket and the pacer owned a new record for himself. The left-arm pacer became the first Indian bowler to pluck a wicket on the first delivery in T20 World Cup history.
2. Saurabh Netravalkar drops Suryakumar Yadav
USA dominated the chase by sending the top three Indian batters back to the hut with 44 runs on the board. Suryakumar started his onslaught gradually and built a good partnership with Shivam Dube. He was batting on 22 and tried to chip Van Schalkwyk over the infield. Netravalkar stationed at the short third settled under the ball only to drop it at the end.
3. USA were awarded five penalty runs
Just when USA were making inroads to get the better off India, they were handed five penalty runs when India needed 35 runs off 30 balls. The move came as the hosts breached the 60-second mark to start the new over thrice in the game and India started the 16th over with 81 runs on board in place of 76 before the over commenced.

Good win for India. SKY's mature 50 & fantastic bowling by the team, especially Arshdeep Singh was commendable 👏🏾 USA put up a good fight but it wasn’t their day today.
