The wait is finally over for Virat Kohli as the former India skipper managed to hit his first Test century since the one against Bangladesh in 2019. The 34-year-old took some time to get adjusted to the conditions and eventually hit the three-figure mark on Day 4 of the fourth Test against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
After the visiting side posted 480 runs in the match's first innings, India needed a strong response and that is precisely what Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli delivered. After the youngster got out on 128 runs, the 34-year-old took the responsibility to help India remain in the driver’s seat as the Rohit Sharma-led side is eyeing to take a healthy lead and put Australia under pressure in the second innings of the match.
Meanwhile, coming back to Virat Kohli, the Delhi-born cricketer was getting good starts but wasn’t being able to convert them into a big total. Now, in a pitch which is relatively much easier for the batters to dominate, Kohli played remarkably well to bring up his 75th international century. The Aussie bowlers looked clueless in the middle as the cricketer was delighted and celebrated in style after the big century.
He is currently 25 centuries shy of reaching the landmark figure of 100 international centuries, which was set by the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar during his playing days. Coming back to the match, Kohli now needs to accelerate his innings as India are still trailing by more than 80 runs in the match. Notably, in order to gain an advantage in the first innings, the partnership between Kohli and Axar Patel is going to be very important now as India are a batter down after Shreyas Iyer is reported to have suffered a back pain and has gone for scans in the hospital.
