The first T20I of the three-match series between Bangladesh and Ireland came to an end as both teams took each other on at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Paul Stirling won the toss and elected to bowl first, and he opined that his lack of knowledge about the condition was the reason for his decision.

Batting first, the hosts got just the start that they wanted as Litton Das and Rony Talukdar played sensational knocks of 47 and 67 runs, respectively, to mount some early pressure on Ireland. Shamim Hossain also added 30 runs to the board as Bangladesh managed to post a massive 207 runs on the board before rain disrupted play.

Craig Young was the most successful bowler for Ireland in the game, with two wickets to his name. The 32-year-old took two wickets in the four overs he bowled, but he did concede 45 runs in the process. Apart from Young, Harry Tector, Mark Adair, and Graham Hume also took a wicket each to slightly disrupt the hosts’ plans.

The score of 207 was Bangladesh’s third-highest total in T20Is, and the Shakib Al Hasan-led side was filled to the brim with confidence following a fabulous performance with the bat.

Taskin Ahmed stars in an emphatic victory

Rain disrupted most of the proceedings of the first T20I between Bangladesh and Ireland, so much so that the match had to be shortened. It was decided that the game would be shortened to a meager eight overs, and Ireland were given the reduced target of 104 runs to win in those eight overs.

Skipper Paul Stirling and Ross Adair looked to provide a decent start to the visitors, but all plans failed when Taskin Ahmed came in to bowl. The 27-year-old was fabulous with the ball, as he took four wickets in the two overs he bowled and conceded just 16 runs. In the end, Ireland only managed to score 81 runs, and Bangladesh registered a win in the first T20I by 22 runs (DLS method).
