South Africa humiliated India on Day 3 of the first Test at SuperSport Park, Centurion as they won the match by an innings and 32 runs. Having taken a massive lead of 163 runs in the first innings courtesy of a magnificent hundred by Dean Elgar (185 off 287), the hosts bundled out India for just 131 in the second innings with debutant Nandre Burger picking 4/33.
The day began with the Proteas resuming their innings on 256/5 with Dean Elgar (140*) and Marco Jansen at the crease. The duo added 111 runs for the sixth wicket and helped their side extend the lead beyond 100. Elgar continued his marathon knock and registered his second-highest Test score of his career (185) before Shardul Thakur dismissed him to provide the breakthrough.

Following his dismissal, Jansen continued to hold one end and got good support from Gerald Coetzee (19 off 18). The all-rounder remained unbeaten on 84* as he ran out of partners with captain Temba Bavuma absent hurt. South Africa were all out for 408 and Jasprit Bumrah (4/69) was the pick of the bowlers for India.
Trailing by 163 runs in the second innings, India once again failed to get off to a great start as Kagiso Rabada once again accounted for captain Rohit Sharma for a duck by dismantling his stumps. Burger got rid of Yashasvi Jaiswal from the other end while Marco Jansen cleaned up Shubman Gill (26 off 37) after a good start to his innings. Shreyas Iyer (6 off 12) also met the same fate losing his stumps against Jansen.

Virat Kohli scored a valiant 76 in the second innings
Burger returned in the attack and dismissed first innings centurion KL Rahul (4) and Ravichandran Ashwin (0 off 1) off consecutive balls to leave India reeling at 105/7. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli was looking in fine touch at the other end and raced to his 30th half-century in just 61 balls.
However, he failed to find any support and was eventually dismissed for 76 (82) courtesy of a spectacular catch by Kagiso Rabada running from long on which brought curtains on the Indian innings. As a result, India were bundled out for 131 in just 34.1 overs and lost the match.
Meanwhile, X was abuzz with reactions on India’s humbling. Here are some of the posts:
It would be unfair not to acknowledge this inning of Virat Kohli on South African soil. Played brilliantly.

One man standing between India and a series win in South Africa. On two consecutive tours. #SAvInd
101.5 overs combined in two innings vs SA’s 108.4 overs with a better short. The team must feel extremely let down. Wonder what it could’ve been if it wasn’t for Rahul and Virat’s runs.. Outplayed in every department really.

#INDvSA For God's sake BCCI, remove Rahul Dravid and appoint somebody else, this man is single handedly responsible for the meek and timid approach to team selection and style of play that is costing us every big match
