Joburg Super Kings skipper Faf du Plessis and Reeza Hendricks' 157-run partnership for the opening wicket steered the side to chase down 178 runs with panache in an eight-wicket victory against Durban's Super Giants in match 22 of the ongoing SA20

Electing to field first after winning the toss, Faf and co. got the early breakthroughs in the contest. However, Heinrich Klaasenโ€™s 65-run knock coupled with Jason Holderโ€™s quickfire 28 runs guided the side to attain a competitive total of 178 for the loss of six wickets in the 20 overs of the clash.

Gerald Coetzee and Maheesh Theekshana both scalped three wickets each and concluded with bowling figures of 3/21 and 3/30 respectively in the first innings.

Faf-Hendricks partnership lights up Johannesburg during run chase

In response to the competitive total attained by the visitors at the Wanderers, openers Faf du Plessis and Reeza Hendricks did not waste much time as the duo swiftly hit the ground running. The skipper of the home side scored a blistering knock of 113* runs of 58 balls which included eight boundaries and as many maximums at a stunning strike rate of 194.82 and remained unbeaten throughout the chase.

Meanwhile, Hendricks carved out a delicate knock and kept the scoreboard ticking. The duo scored 157 runs between them effortlessly before Hendricks was sent packing at 45 off 46 balls by Reece Topley.

With the massive partnership between the opening duo, Faf made short work of the respectable total and chased it down as he dispatched one high over extra cover to wrap up the contest.

Courtsey of the massive win, Joburg have dented Durbanโ€™s prospects of making a place in the final four of the top-tier league. On the other hand, Faf and co. march on as they will look to cement their place in the top two after the mini-break with their first match against Paarl Royals on February 3.
