Twitter Reactions: Curtis Campher's breath-taking knock helps Ireland to a stunning victory against Scotland

Curtis Campher remained unbeaten on 72 off 32 balls with seven fours and two sixes in his match-winning innings.

Ireland pulled off a terrific run-chase in the T20 World Cup 2022 Round 1 game against Scotland in a high scoring game at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart and kept their hopes alive in the tournament. Curtis Campher played a heroic knock with the bat alongside George Dockrell in a huge partnership as Ireland won the game by six wickets.  

Earlier in the game, Scotland opted to bat first after winning the toss and George Munsey had to return to the pavilion for just one run in the second over. Michael Jones and Matthew Cross stitched a 59-run partnership for the second wicket and got the innings going with a lot of boundaries. Curtis Campher removed Cross for a 21-ball 28 while Jones started to get set into his groove.  

Richie Berrington played the support act with a breezy knock of 27-ball 37 as the stage was set for a big score to be posted. Jones reached a fantastic half-century and started finding the boundaries regularly after his fifty. The right-hander played an outstanding innings of 55-ball 86 which comprised six fours and four sixes and was dismissed finally in the 19th over. Micheal Leask’s unbeaten 13-ball 17 helped Scotland post 176 for 5 in their 20 overs.

In reply, Ireland openers Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie were removed inside the powerplay while Lorcan Tucker and Harry Tector stuck around for a while. In the 10th over, Ireland was stranded at 61 for 4 with their top four batters gone and it was upto the duo of Curtis Campher and George Dockrell to bail the side out. 

Campher played a breathtaking knock out of nowhere and kept playing his shots which did add a bit of pressure on the Scotland bowlers. Dockrell had the best seat in the house at the non-striker’s end and he was quite clever to rotate the strike apart from hitting the odd boundaries. The pair put on an unbeaten 119-run partnership in just 57 balls under pressure for the fifth wicket and took their side home.  

Campher remained unbeaten on 72 off 32 balls with seven fours and two sixes in his magnificient innings while Dockrell played well for his unbeaten 39 off 27 balls with four fours and a six.
