Despite having a well-set Virat Kohli out in the middle, India could not set a mammoth score on the board as they finished their innings at 179/2 in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 encounter against the Netherlands at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday, October 27.

Skipper Rohit Sharma decided to bat after calling it right at the toss for a second straight time. The Men in Blue received an initial setback in the form of opener KL Rahul who departed with just nine runs against his name off 12 deliveries as Rohit and Virat then took the initiative of carrying out the rescue act.

The Dutch bowlers did keep the two world-class batters quiet to some extent, but the dynamic duo would not go down without a fight and it was just a matter of time before they unleashed their explosive shots and made the opposition toil hard for wickets.

Rohit Sharma who was dismissed cheaply in the last match against Pakistan roared back to form with a solid half-century. He and Kohli stitched a 73-run stand for the second wicket courtesy of Sharma's whirlwind knock. The 'Hitman' looked set for a big knock, but was dismissed in the 12th over by Fred Klaassen, but not before scoring 53 runs from 39 deliveries.

After Rohit's dismissal, Virat Kohli took care of the scoring rate even when the Dutch bowlers were trying to stage a comeback in the middle overs. He got good support from Suryakumar Yadav as well as the duo added an unbeaten 95-run stand for the third wicket.

Kohli went on to register his second straight half-century of the tournament and just like the last match he remained unbeaten till the end scoring 62 runs off 44 balls at an outstanding strike rate of nearly 141 including three fours and two sixes. Suryakumar Yadav also batted superbly scoring an unbeaten 25-ball 51.
