Twitter Reactions: India book semi-final ticket as pacers devour Sri Lanka in Mumbai

India beat Sri Lanka by 302 runs in Match 33 of the ODI World Cup 2023 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The Indian winning juggernaut continued in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as they beat Sri Lanka by a massive 302-run margin on Thursday, November 02 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. After being put in to bat first, India posted a humongous total of 357/8 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Sri Lanka were blown away by the Indian pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami as they were bundled out for just 55 in 19.4 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah started the proceedings for India by dismissing Pathum Nissanka lbw on the very first ball of the innings. Mohammed Siraj also joined the party as he got rid of Dimuth Karunaratne (0 off 1) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (0 off 4) in the very next over. Siraj further scalped Kusal Mendis (1 off 10) in the fourth over to leave Sri Lanka reeling at 3/4 after 3.1 overs. They were further reduced to 29/8 after 13.1 overs as Shami picked the next four wickets in no time.

Sri Lankan tail showed some resistance to help their side cross the 50-run mark but were eventually bundled out for 55. Courtesy of their win, India became the first team to qualify for the semi final in ODI World Cup 2023. Shami (5/18) was the pick of the bowlers for India as he also became the leading wicket-taker for his country in World Cup history (45 wickets). Mohammed Siraj also scalped 3/16 in 7 overs while Bumrah picked 1/8 in five overs.

Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill stabilized Indian innings after early blow

Earlier in the day, after being put in to bat first, India lost their captain Rohit Sharma on the very second ball after he scored a boundary off the first delivery. Following his dismissal, Shubman Gill (92 off 92) and Virat Kohli (88 off 94) stabilized the innings with their massive 189-run stand for the second wicket.

Shreyas Iyer walked in at number four amid questions rising on his place in the side and played a magnificent innings of 82 (56). Ravindra Jadeja also played a cameo of 35 (24) to help India post 357/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Dilshan Madushanka was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka as he registered figures of 5/80 in ten overs.
