MI Emirates dished out a punishment of the highest order to the high-flying Desert Vipers in Sharjah, defeating them by a resounding margin of 157 runs in a one-sided contest. Kieron Pollard's side batted first in the match and posted a massive total of 241 runs on the back of some sensational power-hitting by his batters, including himself.

Colin Munro, the skipper of the table-topping Desert Vipers, opted to bowl first after winning the toss on a batting-friendly surface. However, his decision backfired as Andre Fletcher and Muhammad Waseem started on the front foot for their side. The duo added 68 runs in the powerplay providing a flying start to their side.

Things got worse for the Vipers as the openers upped the ante in the following overs, adding 141 runs for the first wicket in just a little over 12 overs in the match. Fletcher was the first to depart after a brisk half-century. His opening partner missed out on a century after being dismissed for a 44-ball 86.

Munro's side were hoping to make a comeback in the game after the twin strikes. But their hopes were dashed when opposition skipper Kieron Pollard rolled back the years with a sizzling cameo. The Windies all-rounder smashed a 19-ball half-century to take his side to a daunting total of 241 runs in their 20 overs.

Desert Vipers surrendered meekly chasing a record target

Desert Vipers needed a miraculous effort to chase down the target, and their openers perished inside the first three overs to make the game a mere formality. The result was a foregone conclusion by now, but Munro's side threw their hands at everything in a desperate attempt to chase the target.

However, they fell well short of the target as only three batters managed to reach double figures during the chase. They even failed to play out their full quota of 20 overs as the innings eventually fizzled out for a lowly 84 runs on the board. Fazalhaq Farooqi was the star with the ball, scalping three wickets in his three overs to dent the hopes of the Vipers.
