Mohammad Rizwan and Aamer Jamal’s heroics with the bat helped Pakistan stay in the race in the Pink Test against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The visiting team once again had a very poor start, losing both openers within the first two overs. Replacing Imam-ul-Haq in the playing XI, debutant Saim Ayub failed to open his tally, as Josh Hazlewood got the better of him while Mitchell Starc sent Abdullah Shafique packing off the second ball of the match.

Skipper Shan Masood and Babar Azam took control of the situation but Pakistan’s batting unit once again wasn’t ready for Pat Cummins. The ace pacer dismissed Babar for 26 runs and eventually went on to pick up a five-for. However, Mohammad Rizwan and Aamer Jamal made the difference in the third Test. Pakistan were 47/4 at one stage and that’s when Rizwan played a brilliant knock of 88 runs off 103 deliveries to help his team come out of the problem.

Agha Salman supported him well in the middle, as the 30-year-old made 53 runs in the middle. He stitched a 94-run partnership with Rizwan, which set the momentum for Pakistan. However, neither of the cricketers could manage to convert it to a century as Pakistan lost three wickets in just seven runs a little later.

However, Aamer Jamal’s sheer brilliance with the bat helped the team post 313 runs in the third Test. Along with Mir Hamza, he stitched a partnership of 86 runs, which is the second-highest 10th-wicket partnership for Pakistan against Australia. Jamal went on to score 82 runs and with that, he now holds the record of being the only Pakistan cricketer to pick up a five-for and score fifty-plus in his debut series.

Australia played only one over on Day 1. David Warner picked up a boundary as Australia are trailing by 307 runs. Meanwhile, the southpaw is yet to find his Baggy Green, which got lost before the third Test. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese recently joined Warner in the plea of returning his Test cap.
