South Africa registered a huge victory against Bangladesh in Match 22 of the T20 World Cup 2022 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Rilee Rossouw's blistering century alongside Anrich Nortje's outstanding bowling spell proved to be too hot for Bangladesh who did not have much answers in both departments.

Earlier in the game, South Africa opted to bat first after winning the toss and the skipper Temba Bavuma’s woes continued with another early dismissal for him. Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw put on a staggering partnership of 163 for the second wicket and the platform was set for a huge score to be posted. Rossouw was smashing sixes for fun at one end while De Kock took off from other where he left off in the previous encounter against Zimbabwe.

De Kock was finally dismissed for a 38-ball 63 while Rossouw kept going for the three-figure mark which wasn’t far away. Once De Kock perished, the scoring rate dropped for a while and Bangladesh managed to pull back things a little bit with some disciplined bowling. Rossouw reached a fantastic century and his 109 off 56 balls which included eight sixes helped the Proteas post 205 for 5 in their 20 overs. Shakib Al Hasan was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 33 in his three overs for Bangladesh.

Anrich Nortje’s raw pace takes South Africa home comfortably

Chasing a big total, Bangladesh came out with a positive intent and Soumya Sarkar straightaway smashed two sixes off the bowling of Kagiso Rabada in the very first over. However, the exciting start was short-lived and Anrich Nortje wreaked havoc with three wickets inside the powerplay. None of the Bangladesh batters looked like settling at the crease while Litton Das tried to steady the ship from one end.

Das’ 34 off 31 balls was the top score for Bangladesh as the South African bowlers strangled the batting lineup with regular wickets. In the end, Bangladesh were bundled up for 101 in 16.3 overs and South Africa won the game by 104 runs to boost their net run-rate massively. Nortje was the bowler who did all the damage with 4 for 10 in his 3.3 overs.
