Twitter Reactions: Suryakumar, Kishan help India surmount massive total in Visakhapatnam to go 1-0 up against Australia

India beat Australia by two wickets in the first T20I of the five-match series in Visakhapatnam.

India went 1-0 up in the five-match T20I series against Australia as they won the first game by two wickets on Thursday, November 23 at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. After being put in to bat first, Australia posted a mammoth score of 208/3 riding on a spectacular hundred from Josh Inglis. India’s chase didn’t get off to a good start as they lost their openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (21 off 8) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (0 off 0) in the first three overs.

However, a massive 112-run stand off 60 balls between Ishan Kishan (58 off 39) and Suryakumar Yadav (80 off 42) helped their side get back into the game. Following their dismissals, Rinku Singh (22* off 14) stayed till the end and helped India chase down the target in 19.5 overs as they finished on 209/8.

Earlier in the day, after being put in to bat first, Australia got off to a decent start as openers Steven Smith and Matthew Short (13 off 11) added 31 runs for the first wicket off 28 balls. Their stand was broken by Ravi Bishnoi who cleaned up Matthew Shorr in the fifth over to give first success for his side.

Josh Inglis scored the joint-fastest hundred by an Australian batter in T20Is

Josh Inglis walked in at number three and took the Indian bowling to the cleaners by scoring the joint-fastest hundred by an Australian off 47 balls. He went on to play a scintillating innings of 110 off 50 balls smashing 11 fours and eight sixes in his innings. Inglis was well supported by Steven Smith who also scored a brilliant fifty (52 off 41). The duo put on a massive 130-run stand for the second wicket off 68 balls.

Following their dismissals, Tim David (19* off 13) and Marcus Stoinis (7* off 6) guided Australia to a massive score of 208. Mukesh Kumar pulled things back in the death overs and finished with figures of 0/29 in four overs while Prasidh Krishna (1/50, 4 overs) and Ravi Bishnoi (1/54, 4 overs) picked one wicket each.
